Eshcar Hillel leads the Scalable Systems team at Yahoo research, Haifa. The team specializes in scalability and reliability of platforms powering major products in Verizon Media.  It also has vast experience in driving initiatives and contributing to multiple open source projects, primarily Apache projects like Phoenix, Omid, HBase, and DataSketches.

Eshcar’s research interests include scalable key-value stores, big data analytics platforms, distributed transactional processing, and concurrent data structures for multi-core architecture. She published 25+ papers in academic conferences and journals, owns 10+ US patents and applications (Yahoo Master Inventor, 2019). Eshcar received her BSc (summa cum laude) and PhD from the Faculty of Computer Science at Technion, Israel Institute of Technology in 2002 and 2011 respectively. Her PhD focused on concurrent data structures and inherent limitations of transactional memory. Prior to her graduate studies she was a software engineer at HP (formerly Tandem) Labs, working on the NonStop SQL database engine.
